ScoreStory or Qualtrics: how much platform do you need?
Qualtrics is one of the largest platforms for customer, employee and market research, with dozens of channels, statistics and AI. ScoreStory is deliberately smaller: one score followed by a conversation about the reasons, which you set up yourself. Here is how they differ.

What each one is for
Qualtrics
Qualtrics, founded in Utah in 2002, builds software for customer experience, employee experience and market and product research, aimed at large organisations, governments and healthcare. The platform collects feedback through dozens of channels, from email and SMS to apps and websites, and analyses it with text analytics, statistics and dashboards. Qualtrics also has a growing set of AI features, including AI follow-up questions in surveys.
ScoreStory
ScoreStory asks one question, an NPS, eNPS, CSAT or CES score, and then holds a conversation about the answer. Vox, the AI interviewer, asks for reasons and examples. The answers are sorted into themes and sentiment automatically, with a short conclusion and the quotes behind it. You set it up yourself, in a few minutes.

Where your data is
Qualtrics runs on AWS. In 2022 Qualtrics announced data centres in Frankfurt and London. We found no current overview of its regions, or of how the region for your account is chosen, on its public pages; ask Qualtrics. According to its AI administration page, an administrator can switch off generative AI for the whole organisation, and the AI features run on models through Microsoft Azure and AWS. Qualtrics holds certifications including ISO 27001, ISO 27701, ISO 42001 and SOC 2 Type II, as well as certifications for government use.
ScoreStory runs on its own infrastructure at Leaseweb in the Netherlands. The language model that holds and analyses the conversation is Anthropic's, in the US, so the conversation text leaves the EEA for that step, under the EU Standard Contractual Clauses. ScoreStory does not hold an ISO 27001 or SOC 2 certification. See our privacy page.
What it costs
Qualtrics does not publish prices for its paid packages. Customer and market research are priced on the number of interactions, employee research on headcount, with unlimited users. The free account has no end date but does have limits: 3 active surveys, 30 questions per survey, 500 responses per survey and one language.
ScoreStory charges per participant, and the prices are on the website: Essential costs €50 a month excl. VAT for 10 participants a month, Plus €125 for 50 and Pro €475 for 250. If you need more, there is an Enterprise contract. Your first 10 interviews are free. See pricing.
When to choose which
Qualtrics is the better choice if you
- run a large CX or EX programme across many channels and departments;
- need extensive questionnaires or statistical analysis;
- want to collect feedback in your app, by SMS or offline;
- need deep integrations with Salesforce, ServiceNow or Dynamics;
- run research in dozens of languages;
- require certifications such as ISO 27001, SOC 2 or FedRAMP.
ScoreStory is the better fit if you
- want to measure one recurring score and hear the reasons from every participant;
- want to start today, without waiting for a quote;
- want a whole conversation, in Dutch too, rather than one or two follow-up questions;
- want a predictable budget, with published prices per participant;
- are a smaller team without a research department of your own.
Switching, or using both
For an organisation that uses Qualtrics broadly, ScoreStory doesn't replace the whole platform. But a department or brand that mainly measures an NPS or CSAT can run that measurement, with the conversation behind it, in ScoreStory.
How to start
- Choose the metric and keep the same question wording, so your score stays comparable.
- Import your contacts as a CSV or Excel file, or create invitations from your own systems through the API.
- Use the website pop-up where you now run a website intercept.
- Export your historical results from Qualtrics, for example as CSV, Excel or SPSS. ScoreStory doesn't import them.

Frequently asked questions
Qualtrics has AI follow-up questions too. What does ScoreStory do differently?
Qualtrics' Conversational Feedback asks one or two AI follow-up questions on an open answer, within a questionnaire. In ScoreStory the conversation is the survey itself: after the score, every participant gets an interview, in one of eight languages. Qualtrics also does far more than ScoreStory, from statistics to dozens of channels.
Is ScoreStory suitable for a large CX programme?
For one part of it: the recurring score with the reasons behind it, after a purchase, a delivery or a support contact. If you need a programme with many channels, CRM integrations, statistical analysis and dashboards per department, Qualtrics is built for that and ScoreStory is not.
What does Qualtrics cost?
Qualtrics does not publish prices for its paid packages. According to its pricing page, customer and market research are priced on the number of interactions and employee research on headcount, with unlimited users. There is a free account with up to 3 active surveys and 500 responses per survey.
