Comparison

ScoreStory or Effectory: which suits your employee research?

Effectory is a Dutch employee feedback platform with validated questionnaires, benchmarks and expert support. ScoreStory does something smaller and different: one eNPS question, followed by an anonymous conversation about the reasons. Here is how they differ, and how to choose.

What each one is for

Effectory

Effectory, founded in 1996, builds employee feedback software from Amsterdam and Munich and, according to its own site, works with more than 1,200 organisations. The platform covers engagement surveys, pulse surveys, onboarding and exit surveys, and scans for teams and leadership. Its questionnaires are based on validated models, you can compare your results with benchmarks, and depending on the package you get consulting and training to help you act on them.

ScoreStory

ScoreStory asks employees for one score, the eNPS, and then holds a short conversation about the reasons. Vox, the AI interviewer, asks for reasons and examples, and the answers are sorted into themes and sentiment automatically, with the quotes behind them. It is built to do yourself: set up, invite and read the results without a research agency.

eNPS Yes. On the 0 to 10 scale. Yes. Part of the Smart Organization Scan and its pulse.
Follow-up on the answer Yes. The AI interviewer asks every employee for reasons and examples. Not described in Effectory's documentation. It does offer open questions and explanations for points of pride and improvement.

Where your data is

Effectory states that all data is stored and processed in the European Economic Area. According to its trust centre, the platform runs on Microsoft Azure. Effectory holds ISO 27001, ISO 27701 and SOC 2 Type 2 certifications. Its help centre says the AI summaries run in Effectory's own environment, based on OpenAI's GPT models, and that data is not shared with external AI services.

ScoreStory runs on its own infrastructure at Leaseweb in the Netherlands: the database, the queue and the file storage. The language model that holds and analyses the conversation is Anthropic's, in the United States, so the conversation text leaves the EEA for that step, under the EU Standard Contractual Clauses. Spoken answers are converted to text in France, by Scaleway, and are not kept afterwards. ScoreStory does not hold an ISO 27001 or SOC 2 certification. You conclude the data processing agreement yourself, in the app. It is all on our privacy page.

If your employees' conversation text must not leave the EEA, or your organisation requires ISO 27001 from its suppliers, Effectory is the better fit today.

What it costs

Effectory does not publish prices. There are three packages, Starter, Professional and Expert, with add-ons such as extra languages. You find out the price through a quote or a demo.

ScoreStory charges per participant, not per employee or per user, and the prices are on the website. Someone only counts once they have given at least one answer. An example: an organisation of 150 employees that measures twice a year has at most 300 participants a year. That fits in Plus on an annual contract: €1,250 a year excl. VAT, with 600 participants a year included. Your first 10 interviews are free, with no credit card. See pricing.

When to choose which

Effectory is the better choice if you

  • want a full engagement survey with a validated model covering many topics;
  • want to compare your results with other organisations in your country or industry;
  • want managers to work with action plans and driver analysis in the same platform;
  • want employees to come in automatically from your HR system, or need SSO;
  • need questionnaires in many languages, or consulting and training to follow up;
  • require all processing to stay in the EEA, or need an ISO 27001 certificate.

ScoreStory is the better fit if you

  • mainly want to know why your eNPS is what it is, in your employees' own words;
  • want to hear quickly what is going on between big surveys, or after a reorganisation;
  • want the interviewer to follow up, rather than hoping someone fills in an open field;
  • want to get going yourself, with published prices per participant and a free start;
  • are a smaller organisation that doesn't need a full engagement platform.

Switching, or using both

You don't have to switch in one go. Much of what Effectory does well, such as an annual survey with benchmarks, ScoreStory doesn't do. So you can also run ScoreStory alongside your existing survey, for instance for an eNPS conversation between two big measurements.

How to start

  • Create a survey with eNPS as the metric, from a template or with Vox.
  • Make the survey anonymous before you invite anyone. After the first participant, that choice is locked.
  • Export your employees from your HR system and import them as a CSV or Excel file, with attributes such as department and location.
  • Invite people with a mailing from your own domain, or with a public link and QR code for colleagues without a work email address.

Your earlier Effectory results don't transfer to ScoreStory. Keep the reports you can download from Effectory for that. If you want the scores to stay comparable, ask the same eNPS question: you can edit the wording of the score question yourself.

Frequently asked questions

Is ScoreStory an alternative to Effectory's employee survey?

In part. If you want a full engagement survey with a validated model, benchmarks and an action planner, Effectory does more. If you mainly want to know what lies behind your eNPS, in your employees' own words, ScoreStory is a lighter and cheaper alternative. You can also run the two side by side.

How anonymous is an eNPS survey in ScoreStory?

In an anonymous survey, ScoreStory stores no name or email address with the conversation. Once a conversation has finished, the link to the invitation is deleted from the database, in rounds of 72 hours, and you never see groups smaller than 5. There are limits: someone who is the only person in a round can be identified through that round, and a very short date filter can isolate a single conversation. Our privacy page says so too.

Can I bring my employees in from AFAS or another HR system?

Not with a ready-made integration. You export a list from your HR system and import it as a CSV or Excel file, with attributes such as department and location. If you want to automate it, use the REST API.
