ScoreStory or Google Forms: when is a form enough?

Google Forms is the quickest way to build a form or a quiz, and if you have Google Workspace it is simply included. ScoreStory is built for something else: one score, followed by a conversation about the reasons. Here is how they differ.

What we say about Google Forms was checked against the vendor's own pages in October 2026. Sources and corrections

What each one is for

Google Forms

Google Forms is one of the Google Workspace apps. You can build a form, survey or quiz with it in a few minutes, with twelve question types, sections and branching. Responses appear in a summary with charts and, if you like, in a linked Google Sheet. On eligible plans, Gemini helps draft a form and summarise the responses.

ScoreStory

ScoreStory asks one question, an NPS, eNPS, CSAT or CES score, and then holds a conversation about the answer. Vox, the AI interviewer, asks for reasons and examples. The answers are sorted into themes and sentiment automatically, with a short conclusion and the quotes behind it, and your score's trend by day, week or month.

Aspect ScoreStory Google Forms
What it is for One score (NPS, eNPS, CSAT or CES) and a conversation about the reason behind it. Forms, surveys and quizzes, as part of Google Workspace.
Question types and logic Partly. One score question, participant attributes and one closing question of your own. No question logic. Yes. Twelve question types, sections that branch on the answer, and quizzes with automatic grading.
NPS Yes. NPS, eNPS, CSAT and CES as metrics, with the score and its trend in your results. Partly. No NPS question type. A 0 to 10 linear scale works; you calculate the NPS yourself.
Follow-up on the answer Yes. The AI interviewer asks every participant for reasons and examples. Not documented. Follow-up questions run through sections you set up in advance.
Analysis of open answers Yes. Themes, sentiment, a short conclusion, and questions you can ask about your results. Partly. Charts per question. With Gemini, on eligible plans, a summary and themes for up to 200 responses. No sentiment analysis documented.
Spoken answers Yes. Participants type or speak their answer; speech is converted to text. No. No audio question in the list of question types.
Anonymity Yes. An anonymous mode: no names stored with the conversations, the link to the invitation deleted, and no results for groups under 5. Partly. Email addresses are only collected if you switch it on. Protection for small groups is not documented.
Inviting people Yes. Personal and public links, QR code, website pop-up, mailings from your own domain with reminders, import and API. Partly. Link, email and embedding on a web page. A QR code or reminders are not mentioned.
Branding Yes. Your logo, colours and avatar on the invitation and the interview. Yes. Themes and colours per form.
Where the data is Partly. Application and stored data in the Netherlands. The language model runs at Anthropic in the US. Partly. An EU data region for stored forms and responses, on certain Workspace plans only. Not on Business Starter.
Price Per participant per month. Your first 10 interviews are free. Included in every Google Workspace plan, which is paid per user.

Where your data is

Google lets administrators on a number of Workspace plans choose a data region, Europe among them. Forms is covered for stored forms and responses. According to Google, that choice is available on Business Standard and Plus and the Enterprise plans, among others, and not on Business Starter. Keeping processing in that region too can only be set on a few Enterprise and Frontline plans. For a regular Google account, no choice is documented.

ScoreStory runs on its own infrastructure at Leaseweb in the Netherlands, on every plan. The language model that holds and analyses the conversation is Anthropic's, in the US, so the conversation text leaves the EEA for that step, under the EU Standard Contractual Clauses. See our privacy page.

What it costs

Google Forms is part of every Google Workspace plan. On 22 October 2026, Google's Dutch pricing page listed, per user per month on an annual contract: Business Starter at €6.80, Business Standard at €13.60 and Business Plus at €21.10. If you already have Workspace, Forms costs you nothing extra. According to Google, Gemini in Forms comes with Business Standard and above, among others.

ScoreStory charges per participant: Essential costs €50 a month excl. VAT for 10 participants a month, Plus €125 for 50 and Pro €475 for 250, with up to 5 users included. Your first 10 interviews are free. See pricing.

When to choose which

Google Forms is the better choice if you

  • need a form, a registration or an internal poll quickly;
  • build quizzes that mark themselves;
  • already use Google Workspace and want no extra cost;
  • want the responses straight in Google Sheets;
  • mostly ask closed questions and count the answers yourself.

ScoreStory is the better fit if you

  • measure an NPS, CSAT, CES or eNPS score and want to know what lies behind it;
  • would rather not read and sort open answers yourself;
  • want to follow your score over time and compare it across groups;
  • want an anonymous employee survey in which small groups can't be singled out;
  • want to invite customers from your own domain, in your own branding, with reminders.

Switching, or using both

There is no reason to drop Google Forms. Keep it for forms and quizzes, and use ScoreStory for the measurements where you want to know why someone gives the score they do.

How to start

  • Choose the metric and keep the same question wording, so your score stays comparable.
  • Download your contacts from Google Sheets as a CSV file and import them, with attributes such as location or department.
  • Invite people with a mailing, a public link or a QR code, or with a pop-up on your website.
  • Your old responses stay in Google Sheets. ScoreStory doesn't import them.

Frequently asked questions

Why pay when Google Forms is already included?

For a form, a registration or a quiz, you don't need to: Google Forms does that well. The difference is in what happens after the score. Google Forms records what someone fills in. ScoreStory follows up on the answer and sorts every conversation into themes and sentiment, so you don't have to read hundreds of open answers yourself.

Can Gemini analyse my open answers in Google Forms?

Yes, on the plans where Gemini in Forms is available. Google describes a summary of text answers and a grouping into themes, for 3 to 200 responses. When it launched in June 2025, it worked in English only.

Can I move my NPS form over from Google Forms?

Yes. Choose NPS as the metric, keep your question wording, and import your contacts as a CSV file, for example downloaded from Google Sheets. Your old responses stay in Google Sheets; ScoreStory doesn't import them.
